The mock interview

The mock interview

Message design that only survives in a calm room in front of no one is not ready yet.

Everything in this course up to now has been prepared calmly, without the pressure of an actual microphone, camera or deadline. That preparation is necessary and it isn’t sufficient on its own, because the real test is whether it holds up interrupted, recorded, and under genuine time pressure.

Do this now. Ask someone to run a mock interview with you: three or four real questions, including at least one hostile one, recorded on video, with no advance warning of the exact wording. Afterward, watch it back once for content — did your key messages land — and once more with the sound off, checking eye line and stillness from lesson six.

If something didn’t hold up, that’s the entire value of doing this before it matters rather than during an actual interview. Better preparation from here is simply repeating this exercise with the specific gap you found, not starting the whole course over.
